Indigenous rights activist thanks governor for appointing new IAO head

INDIGENOUS rights activist Raymond Quitugua is grateful to Gov. Arnold I. Palacios for appointing Ross H. Manglona as the new resident executive of the Indigenous Affairs Office.

“I am pleased with the appointment of Ross and I am thankful to the governor for keeping his word,” said Quitugua who earlier staged a protest action over the closure of the IAO building on Capital Hill.

Quitugua said he also looks forward to “serving and continuously assisting the indigenous community in fighting for their rights and in preserving their culture.”

“The Matua Council [for Native Chamorro Advancement] and I are here to serve for the betterment and advancement of the indigenous Chamoru natives. I see hope that good fate will take its course,” he added.

Manglona, the new resident executive of the IAO, is a former continuing education and workforce development director of the Northern Marianas Technical Institute.

He also served as executive director of Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services.
