Alfred Tabora is Savory Bistro Café’s Karaoke Star

ALFRED Tabora topped Savory’s Search for Karaoke Star Season 2 at Savory Bistro Café in Garapan (not Gualo Rai as earlier reported) on Saturday, March 25.

He won $1,000 cash prize, a trophy and gift certificates.

Tabora performed the Filipino song “Kasalanan” or Sin in the preliminary round and was among the six of the 17 contestants who made it to the final round.

The other finalists were Brent Michael who sang “Let Me be the One”; Raniel Santos, “Two Less Lonely People in the World”; Bernard Sabino, “Hanggang” or Until; Randy Teal, “Losing My Religion”; and Mark Calma, “Kailangan Kita” or I Need You.

Michael emerged as the second runner up while the first runner up honor went to Raniel Santos. Calma won the Audience Choice Award.

In the final round, Tabora performed Bon Jovi’s “Thank You for Loving Me” which earned him a standing ovation.

“He’s like the Bon Jovi of Saipan!” said Jovit Baldivino, one of the audience members.

When the hosts asked the audience who they thought was the winner, they shouted, “Alfred!”

“I am thankful to the management of Savory for holding this kind of competition. No words can express my joy,” Tabora told Variety in an interview.

He thanked his family and friends for supporting him.

“I am so grateful to their support — it is overwhelming,” he added.

Tabora, who will celebrate his birthday on April 3, said the $1,000 prize is an early birthday gift.

“I just want to be happy. This is for my birthday!” he added.

Grateful owners

Savory Café and Bistro owners Jennifer and Miguel Elayda were also grateful to the audience, the online viewers, the contestants and the sponsors for the success of this year’s karaoke contest.
