THE Department of Public Safety-Boating Safety Section has recovered the body of a 54-year-old spearfisherman.
According to the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, on Sunday, at approximately 12:01 a.m., a female caller reported an overdue spearfisherman in the waters off Lower Base beach behind the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power plant.
At around 6:23 a.m., the Department of Public Safety’s Boating Safety Section retrieved a speargun in the waters west of the power plant.
At 7:46 a.m., the Boating Safety Section recovered the body of the spearfisherman and brought him to the Smiling Cove Marina where they met with his family.

Variety learned that four men, including the victim, entered the Saipan lagoon in the Lower Base area late Saturday afternoon.
Three of the four men decided to enter deeper water while the victim fished near the shore.
Later in the evening, the three men returned to the beach but did not see their companion. They went back to the water and searched for him but were unsuccessful.
No other information about the victim was available as of press time Monday evening.
