Young runners shine in 100m race

YOUNG runners performed well in the 100m event of the PSS-NMA All School Athletics at the Oleai Sports Complex on Friday.

For the U9 boys 100m distance, four heats were held.

In heat 1, Tinian’s Vicente Cruz came out on top with a time of 17.3 followed by Saipan International School’s Carver Gross, 17.94; and Tinian’s Xiang Huang, 18.82.

SIS’s Gabriel Walsh dominated heat 2 with a strong finish, clocking 17.03. Oleai Elementary School’s Jaden Concepcion came in second with a time of 17.26 while Tinian’s Joedric Torres was third, 17.46.

In heat 3, OES’s Eumond Peter finished first at 16.44 while Koblerville Elementary School’s Lellan Daniel took second place, 17.89; and SIS’s Ezra West came in third, 18.22.

In heat 4, Tinian’s Crixus Nebrida took first place followed by Saipan Community School’s Lennox Sablan in second and OES’s Jacob Borja in third. Their finish times were not available as of press time.

For the U12 girls 100m event, three heats were held.

Heat 1 was ruled by OES’s Gabriella Ruben with a time of 16.03 followed by William S. Reyes Elementary School’s Aubyguel Castro, 16.27; and OES’s Isabel Carreon,17.11.

In heat 2, Tinian’s Kiyara Villagomez dominated the race, clocking 15.49. KoES’s Rosalie Castro came in second with a time of 17.287 while SIS’s Winsor Gross was third, 17.51.

In heat 3, Rota’s Jasmin Yalung finished first with a time of 17.06 followed by OES’s Lea Palacios, 17.44; and schoolmate Argeanna Flores, 17.74.
