THE Lady Legals outlasted the Hot Shots, 17-16, in the ladies division of the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
The Lady Legals drew first blood in the first inning with Catalina Dela Cruz earning an RBI single after having two outs already in the bag. The Hot Shots continued to struggle defensively as their inaccurate throws allowed Pauline Camacho to slip past home and extend the Lady Legals’ lead, 2-0.
The Hot Shots recovered in the second inning with three straight outs and scored two runs courtesy of Lem Ogumoro and Ashley Aguon with an RBI each to even the score, 2-2.
The Lady Legals regained control with two runs in the third inning, but the Hot Shots’ Nish Mario hit a three-run homer which was followed by Mardina Kaipat’s two-RBI single to give the Hot Shots the lead for their first time, 8-4.
The battle continued with the Lady Legals earning two runs in the fourth but the Hot Shots responded with five runs to stay afloat, 13-6.
In the fifth inning, the Lady Legals staged a rally. With the bases filled, Pauline Camacho hit a single, bringing in three runs. Four more followed due to the Hot Shots’ errors. The game was soon tied. In the sixth inning, the Lady Legals unleased four more runs for a 17-13 lead.
The Hot Shots gave it their all, scoring three more runs, but they were short by one run and had to settle for defeat, 16-17.
The Lady Blue Jays, for their part, joined the winner’s circle after outplaying Lady Sufa, 6-1.
