THE Lady Blue Jays remain undefeated in the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League after edging the Lady Blue Legals, 14-13, on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
The Lady Legals opened the first inning with a single run which was quickly answered by the Lady Blue Jays who delivered four runs led by Kiana Aldan and Rayna Deleon Guerrero who had separate in-the-park homeruns to take control, 4-1.
In the top of the second inning, the Lady Legals connected consecutive hits and quickly filled the bases. This was followed by Edilyn Banjamin’s 2-RBI double and Paula Camacho’s 2-RBI single as the Lady Legals regained the lead, 9-4.
In the bottom of the third inning, however, they committed several defensive errors that allowed the Lady Blue Jays to stage a comeback with five runs to tie the score, 9-9.
The Lady Legals tried to stay afloat with a solo run in the top of the fourth, but this was answered by the Lady Blue Jays who scored three runs to gain the advantage once again, 12-10.
In the next two innings Lady Legals chipped away at the deficit with two runs, but the Lady Blue Jays also scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to maintain the lead, 14-12.
The Lady Legals had one last chance to stay alive, but they could only squeeze one run in the top of the seventh before the Lady Blue Jays bagged the three outs needed to secure the win, 14-13.
Team BDE vs Lady Sufa
Joining the winner’s circle was Team BDE which outlasted Lady Sufa, 8-6.
After two scoreless innings, Team BDE broke the silence with two runs courtesy of Emy Oiterong and Allana Sumang with an RBI each, and added two more in the top of the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
Lady Sufa fought back in the bottom of the fourth with three runs before snatching control in the bottom of the sixth with two runs, 5-4.
However, Team BDE notched four runs in the top of the seventh to retain the lead while allowing Lady Sufa only one run to secure the win, 8-6.
