THE four-day Northern Marianas Athletics Talent Identification Camp completed day 1 on Saturday at the track and field of the Oleai Sports Complex where 10 participants focused on mid-long distance scenarios.
“This is more of setting the stage for the training,” said Dr. Ron Snyder, NMI national athletics team coach. Based on “what we see that they can do today, we can develop a training plan to make it appropriate for them,” he added.
The camp, which is held every Saturday of this month, will look into every athletic event such as the 100m, 200m, 400m, hammer throw, shotput discus, triple jump, long jump and high jump.
This Saturday, Feb. 11, will highlight sprints and hurdles followed by throws and jumps.
The camp is being held in anticipation of upcoming events such as the 4th Oceania Cup and the Masters Athletics Championships which will held on Saipan in June; the 10th Micronesian Games in the Marshall Islands in July; and the Pacific Mini Games in the Solomon Islands in November.
Snyder, NMA development officer and coach Elias Rangamar, and members of the national team are conducting the camp.
Participants may be selected to join the national program and other camps as NMA prepares for the 2023 season.
