LARRY Deleon Guerrero topped the Saipan Golf Association’s two-day 2022 Ace of Aces tournament at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
He struggled on day 1, Jan. 28, closing the front nine with a gross of 48 but slightly improved his swing on the the back nine with a gross of 44 for a total gross score of 92. With a handicap of 20, his net score was 72.
On day 2, Jan. 29, he shot a gross of 39 on the front nine and a gross of 44 on the back. With a gross total of 83, his 20 handicap gave him a net score of 63 to secure the top spot as well as the Ace of Aces title.
The first runner up was Nick Sablan who shot 40 and 42 for a combined gross of 82. With a handicap of 7, his net score was 75 on day 1.
On day 2, he shot a gross of 41 and 34 for a total gross score of 75 and a net score of 68.
Second runner up was Joe Sablan who shot a net score of 79 on day 1 and 64 on day 2 while the third runner up was Ed Sablan with a net score of 71 on day 1 and 79 on day 2.
In the optional play, Nick Sablan was the only player to make the list for the Closest to the Pin on hole #13 while Rick Kautz had the Longest Drive for holes #2 and #18.
January Ace of the Month
On Jan. 29, SGA’s 2023 season began with the January Ace of the Month tournament which Ray Salas won.
Salas shot a gross of 44 on the front nine and 42 on the back for a total gross score of 86. Supported by a handicap of 23, his net score was 63.
Larry Deleon Guerrero’s net score was also 63 but he was bested by Salas in the scorecard playoff and had to settle for second place.
Joe Sablan came in third with a net score of 64.
In the Closest to the Pin optional play, Das Krishnan led the list on hole #4; Rick Kautz ruled hole #6; Larry Deleon Guerrero reigned on hole #11; and Joe Sablan notched hole #15.
For the Longest Drive, Joe Sablan was supreme on hole #3 while Krishnan was triumphant on hole #18.
The SGA 2023 February Ace of the Month Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 12, Sunday, at the Kingfisher Golf Links. Tee time is at 9 a.m. and show time is 8 a.m.
