Tania Tan breaks NMI record, again

TANIA Tan has broken the new NMI and personal record she set when she placed sixth overall in the women’s 3000m event of the TCNJ Indoor Invitational at the Armory track in New York City where she clocked 10:34.62.

On Saturday, she placed sixth overall in her heat at the 2023 Boston University Valentine Invitational, improving her time in the 3000m distance and setting a new personal best of 10:18.81.

“I feel honored to have broken another record,” she told Variety. “I think my mental game has improved, so I’m able to fight the discomfort of pushing myself to run fast.”

The NMI athlete who is currently a student at Fordham University in New York has been improving her overall performance — physically and mentally — thanks to the help of her team.

“I think having my coach and teammates training with me each day has helped me run faster,” she said.

She is now preparing for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships Bathurst 2023 which will be held in Bathurst, Australia on Feb. 18 and 19.

“I have no set time goal. I just hope to race my best in Australia and represent our islands proudly,” said Tan who will compete in the 10k senior division race.

Also representing the CNMI in the competition is Sildrey Veloria.
