Probable cause found in case against man charged with sexual abuse of a minor

SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan found probable cause to charge Kevin I. Esteves with sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

At the preliminary hearing on Jan. 11, Esteves appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections, and was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig. Assistant Attorney General Frances Demapan appeared for the government.

During the hearing, Judge Bogdan heard the testimony of Detective Shannon Dela Cruz of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Department of Public Safety.

Esteves, 32, was remanded to the custody of Corrections after the hearing and was ordered to return to court for an arraignment before Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja on Jan. 30 at 9 a.m.

Judge Bogdan previously imposed a $15,000 cash bail on Esteves.

According to the complaint, Esteves inappropriately touched a minor, who is a household member, on Dec. 31.

After learning of the incident, the minor’s mother immediately went to the police department to report it.
