Happy couple Veronica Dacasin, 39, and Carlo Doria, 39, pose for a photo with their newborn son, Denzel Carl, the first baby born on Saipan this new year.

DENZEL Carl is the first baby born at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation on Saipan, making him the island’s 2023 New Year baby.

Weighing just under six pounds, baby Denzel was born to his parents, Veronica Dacasin and Carlo Doria, at 10 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2023.

Dacasin said her due date was Jan. 10, so they were surprised when their baby boy came early. After having all of her prenatal checkups done at CHCC, the first-time mom was in labor for 16 hours.

“We’re just a little bit nervous because it’s my first [child]. I can’t explain what [I’m] feeling,” said Dacasin, smiling as she cradled her newborn son with Doria’s arms around her as they sat on a hospital bed.

The happy couple, both 39 years old, have been together for two years. Dacasin is employed at Kinpachi Restaurant while Doria works for S.T.a.R. Water.

“We’re excited,” the new mom said.

Both mother and child are receiving care at the CNMI’s lone hospital.
