AGAPE Christian School’s varsity team trounced Saipan International School, 42-11, in the opening game of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League’s high school division on Wednesday at the Marianas High School gym.
ACS, however, struggled to get into rhythm in the opening half as SIS drew first blood with a triple delivered by Casey Chambers while team mates Omari Joab and Nam Yunwoo chipped a bucket each to give SIS the lead.
However, that was the end of their highlight reel.
ACS slowly, but surely, took over by trial and error. Every missed shot was tweaked to find the bottom of the net in the next attempt with Abraham Zhu and Allen Luo in the frontline, scoring nine and six points as ACS took over the driver’s seat, 20-7.
In the second half, ACS reasserted its dominance.
Height and the inside game were their biggest strength as the points came from within the paint thanks to Bill Li and Caleb Cui who scored the first 12 points for ACS in the second half.
While holding down SIS to just four team points, ACS cruised to victory, 42-11.
MCS vs GCA
Mount Carmel School joined the winner’s circle by dismantling Grace Christian Academy School, 49-18.
MCS reigned in the first half with balanced teamwork as Lance Lerio, Jay Pineda and Derek Sasamoto exploded on offense for a 29-8 lead.
GCA managed to score 10 team points in the second half but the MCS onslaught continued, resulting in a convincing 49-18 win.
