MARIANAS High School 1 and Kagman High School’s junior varsity teams took down their respective opponents in the high school division of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League at the MHS gym on Wednesday.
MHS JV 1 earned their win in a tough battle against MHS JV 2, 25-20.
It was MHS JV 1’s strong start that gave them the advantage and allowed them to gradually pick up momentum.
Despite a few minutes of struggle, MHS JV 1 managed to shake off their opponents with Juan Escalada taking the action inside to draw a handful of fouls and score four points from the free-throw line.
Defensively, MHS JV 1 held MHS JV 2 to just seven points while Marl Balignasay delivered on offense with six points to give MHS JV 1 a comfortable 14-7 lead.
In the second half, MHS JV 2’s Marc Tengco, Joseph Paraiso and Raphael Galang led a rally to bring down the deficit.
However, they failed to stop MHS JV 1’s onslaught with Balignasay connecting the last five points to secure victory, 25-20.
KHS JV vs MCS JV
Kagman High School JV joined the winner’s circle by defeating Mount Carmel School JV with a strong second half performance.
In the first half, both teams were equally matched, notching three-pointers for a 10-10 deadlock.
However, in the second half, KHS JV took over and restricted MCS JV to just three team points while KHS JV’s Jon Diaz stole the spotlight with eight points en route to a 21-13 victory.
