DANDAN Middle School’s varsity and junior varsity teams, along with other teams, triumphed in their debut matches in the boys middle school division of the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Volleyball League at the Marianas High School gym on Tuesday.
DMS JV had a tough battle but eventually overcame Saipan Community School JV, 25-23, 21-5.
DMS JV established control early thanks to the aggressiveness of Kianu Camacho who connected several spike finishes for an 8-4 lead.
However, their eagerness came at a cost as they also committed several errors due to inaccurate returns and miscommunication which allowed SCS JV to stay within reach.
DMS JV had the chance to secure the first set as they led by as much as six points and needed only two more points. But due to a short serve on their end, SCS JV grabbed the opportunity to make a comeback.
SCS JV’s Jose Sablan and Tony MingXuan notched consecutive points to close the gap and make it a one-point game, 20-21.
However, after several lead exchanges, SCS JV failed to maintain control of the possession as their return went out of bounds, handing DMS JV the final point needed to clinch the first set, 25-23.
The initial win boosted DMS JV’s morale as they seized complete control of the second set and defeated SCS JV, 21-5, for their first win of the season.
Other games
The DMS varsity team also celebrated on Tuesday after taking down Mount Carmel School, 21-14, 21-16.
For its part, Saipan International School showcased pure dominance. The SIS players’ powerful overhand serves, paired with great communication and floor coverage overwhelmed Chacha Oceanview Middle School V which was trounced in two sets, 4-21, 1-21.
Agape Christian School also tasted victory, beating Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 21-17, 21-5, while Tanapag Middle School triumphed over SCS V, 21-11, 21-17.
