VETERANS Day on Nov. 11 honored the nation’s veterans and active duty military personnel, the brave women and men who have served our country, and those who continue to serve.

This year’s ceremony took place at American Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Saipan Southern High School Manta Ray Battalion cadets were present before 8 a.m. to assist in the preparations before the event began. Cadets helped put up flags, set up chairs, placing trash bags on canopy poles, and passed out flyers and water bottles to arriving guests.

Before the event commenced, the Manta Ray Battalion Color Guard posted colors. They retired the colors toward the end of the event. C/CPT Brondo John was the right guard, C/CSM Villagomez Anthony held the U.S. flag, C/2LT Cabrera Antonio held the CNMI flag, and C/2LT Park Ji Seong was the left guard.

C/CPT Sunderland Lana and C/2LT Villaluz Shanna laid the wreath with Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, veterans, and community members.
As the wreath was laid, a 21-gun salute was fired.

The Manta Ray Battalion cadets were glad that they had the opportunity to assist the community while also honoring our veterans on their special day.
