Last-minute payless Friday notice upsets IPI workers

THE remaining employees of Imperial Pacific International were very upset to receive a last-minute notice on Friday informing them that they would not receive their salaries.

In an internal memorandum dated Nov. 18, 2022, IPI told the employees that their salaries for work period of October 31 to November 13, “is delayed until further notice.”

“We send our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences that this continues to cause you,” IPI added.

Local employees told Variety on Friday that they were “so upset” because they were expecting to receive their salary in the morning only to see the memorandum in the afternoon.

In the past, the employees said, the IPI management would issue a notice at least two days or a day before payday if there was a delay in payroll.

IPI has 10 remaining employees, including seven security guards manning the casino hotel in Garapan, and three administrative officers that include Human Resources Director Reddie Dela Cruz who was reinstated Friday after she was furloughed two weeks ago.

Dela Cruz, Variety was told, is now helping IPI’s legal team prepare documents pertaining to labor complaints against IPI.

Variety was also told that IPI has asked Chinese workers to man IPI’s warehouses in Chalan Piao and Lower Base after the IPWAN Security Agency stopped providing services to IPI due to the casino investor’s failure to make payments.
