Run Saipan’s annual Beach Road 5K today

RUN Saipan’s annual Beach Road 5K will be held today, Friday, Oct. 21 at 5:45 p.m. with the starting line at the Oleai Beach Bar & Grill.

Run Saipan President Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said this year, they will  award medals based on the runners’ divisions and not their overall standings. A total of 18 medals will be awarded to nine men and nine women in three separate divisions.

There will be three waves of runners based on the participants’ 5K average time with a five-minute gap in between each wave.

Last year, Dev Bachani led the male division with a finish time of 00:20:30:33. In second and third places were Rex Pixley (00:20:30:37) and Sildrey Veloria (00:21:00:40).

In the female division, the top three were Akiko Miller (00:21:38:00), Rosemarie Fontanilla Chisato (00:27:34:07) and Yuki Rechucher (00:28:27:00).

For Friday’s event, Dela  Cruz is “kindly asking any political group planning to do their road side waving…to…not block the Beach Road Pathway by having their trucks parked directly over the walkway. It happens every time there is a waving event. Please do not impede people utilizing the walkway.”
