SOME residents who are renting homes or apartment units with electric submeters said they are not included among the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation customers who will receive a $300 electric stimulus voucher.
They said the Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone and they should also get the vouchers. They declined to be identified.
CUC said all active residential electric accounts will receive a utility stimulus credit of $300 in August, September and October of 2022.
The stimulus utility credit of $300 for August was uploaded on Aug. 25. For September, some residential account holders said they have received the utility credit already.
In July, CUC said each of the active residential electric accounts was credited $150.
The fuel price hikes in the past few months resulted in a significant increase in the monthly fuel adjustment charge or FAC that CUC collects to pay for the fuel needed by its power plants
One resident noted that the Energy Division recently distributed free portable gas stoves and butane gas canisters to residential households, including tenants of apartments and those who are renting their homes.
“Why can’t CUC do that in the case of the vouchers?” a resident added.
Another resident said the electric stimulus vouchers “benefits only our landlord, but what about us? Those vouchers are a very big help for many wage earners who are renting their homes or apartment units.”
Variety was unable to get a comment from CUC.
