In distributing electric vouchers, CUC says it follows Finance guidelines

“WE’RE just following the Department of Finance guidelines,” Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Executive Director Gary Camacho said.

He was asked about the residents who are renting homes or apartments and have sub-meters but are not included among the CUC customers who will receive the $300 electric stimulus assistance.

These residents said the Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone so they should also receive the electric voucher.

“This is not CUC money,” Camacho said. “We are the conduit to the customers based on their accounts…. The guidelines are provided by Finance,” he added.

All active CUC residential electric accounts will receive a monthly utility stimulus credit of $300 in August, September and October 2022.

The stimulus utility credit for August was uploaded on Aug. 25. For September, it was uploaded on the 19th.

In July, CUC said each of the active residential electric accounts was credited $150.

The fuel price hikes in the past few months resulted in a significant increase in the July fuel adjustment charge or FAC, which CUC collects to pay for the fuel needed by its power plants.
