‘Fantastic numbers’ for Fiji tourism

NADI (Fiji Times/Pacnews) — Fiji received 70,110 visitors in August, said Tourism Fiji chief executive Brent Hill.

“It is fantastic to see the numbers coming in and that’s testament to the hard work of the collective industry,” Hill said.

“From Fiji Airways and our airline partners adding capacity to hotels doing a super job on service and tourism operators delivering an exceptional experience and Tourism Fiji continuing to market Fiji globally.

“Collectively, the message is getting out — Fiji is the perfect place as we emerge out of Covid, to holiday in,” he said.

Occupancy, according to Hill continued to be strong and the local tourism sector currently tracks above 2019 levels which he labeled as “unbelievably good.

He said local properties are doing well and are above 80% through mid-September.

“The Tourism Fiji team is working really hard across the world for sure.

“We are seeing really good growth from the work the teams are doing with the Chinese speaking market globally, from Canada and from Europe which is slowly picking up,” he added.

“We’ve also started to see some good numbers from the South Pacific as countries open up.”

Hill said it was also good to notice growth outside the usual Australia, New Zealand and U.S. markets.

He said good record numbers have also been reported from tourism champions such as Malamala Beach Club, South Sea Island, Wyndham hotel, Cloud 9, Ecotrax and more.

“It is so heartening to see their hard work paying off and it means more jobs for Fijians,” he said.
