Governor nominates Benjamin Huk Lunag Borja to utilities commission

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres has nominated Benjamin Huk Lunag Borja to represent Tinian on the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission.

Borja is the compliance analyst of the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. handling the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Program on Tinian.

In his appointment letter to Borja on July 21, the governor said, “I am pleased to nominate you to serve as a member of the Public Utilities Commission representing the Second Senatorial District.”

“I am confident that you are qualified and you will devote your time and efforts to represent the interest of our Commonwealth,” the governor added. “Your willingness to serve our people is most appreciated.”

In a separate letter to acting Senate President Justo S. Quitugua and Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, the governor said Borja “is highly qualified to fulfill the vital responsibilities of this Commission.”

Two months ago, the House of Representatives unanimously confirmed the nominations of former Rep. Ramon S. Basa and former Rota High School Principal Oscar Quitugua to CPUC.

The commission, which has five members, has regulatory supervision over public utilities including the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation.

The commission has been dormant for several years now due to a lack of members.
