PHILIPPINE actors Wowie De Guzman and Joshua Zamora led about 400 local Zumba enthusiasts in dancing the night way as they celebrated M2 Fitness’s second anniversary at Saipan World Resort’s Royal Taga Hall on Saturday.
De Guzman, a former matinee idol and member of the Universal Motion Dancers, is a licensed Zumba instructor.
Zamora, who has appeared in several movies and TV shows in the Philippines and is a former member of the Manoeuvres dance group, is also a licensed Zumba instructor.
M2 Fitness brought them to Saipan so that dancers from various Zumba groups on island could learn new Zumba moves from De Guzman and Zamora who visited the island for the first time.
The two said they were grateful to M2 Fitness for giving them the opportunity to celebrate with them and share their newest Zumba moves with the island’s health and fitness community.
For her part, M2 Fitness President Mary Grace Bautista thanked the various fitness organizations from Saipan, Tinian, Rota and Guam who joined M2 “in this momentous milestone of our group.”
Also joining the celebration were members and representatives of Let’s Move Marianas, Fitness Saipan, Gold’s Gym, and Tinian Fitbeat Anti-Tobacco Wellness Group. Each group also had the opportunity to perform a dance number with De Guzman and Zamora.
Bautista said “showcasing each group’s fitness routines is not about competing against each other, but to inspire unity among the organizations — we are all moving toward the same objectives through coordinated and focused efforts.”
Also joining them was first lady Dianne Torres.
M2 Fitness likewise recognized all the Zumba instructors in the CNMI: Let’s Move Marianas’ Joseph Caranto and Apple Caranto; Abby Whang; Rhine Russel; Fitbeat Saipan’s Irene Holl, Joey De Vera, Kazu, Vina Hofschneider, Melody Holley, Teresa Madriaga and Susan Condino; and Gold’s Gym’s Shellan Sarmiento and Natalie Cruz.
Bautista also recognized M2 Vice President Mita Pelicano.
With De Guzman and Zamora taking their turns on stage, the entire crowd participated in a “non-stop” Zumba dance. Among them were 75-year-old Lucita Reyes and 65-year-old Beth Yamzon.
Reyes has been dancing Zumba since 2017. She said Zumba makes her feel good, especially when she starts sweating. In her younger years, she was into swimming and track and field, but dancing was her favorite hobby.
When she began dancing Zumba, she said, “I was able to maintain my weight. I haven’t gotten sick — never hospitalized.”
