Fee relief for cannabis licensees across the Marianas

THE CNMI Cannabis Commission’s Board recently voted to reduce application and license fees by 25%, as permitted under the Cannabis Act.

“This decision reflects our commitment to responsive governance, fiscal responsibility, and a fair regulatory framework,” said Thomas Songsong, interim managing director and CNMI Cannabis Commission member.

“We understand that cannabis remains a sensitive issue for many in our community. The Commission’s role is not to promote cannabis use, but to ensure that licensed businesses operate under strict compliance standards that prioritize public safety, transparency, and accountability,” he said.

“This fee adjustment was made after careful consideration of the current economic climate, feedback from licensees, and the Commission’s responsibility to maintain oversight. It supports a more sustainable regulatory environment while allowing the Commission to continue fulfilling its duties without compromising integrity or public trust,” he added.

“We remain dedicated to serving the people of the Commonwealth with professionalism and care. Whether you support or oppose cannabis, your voice matters. We welcome continued dialogue from all stakeholders to help shape a regulatory system that reflects our shared values and protects our community,” Songsong said.
