PELELIU outplayed Hagu Lamun, 23-19, in the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
Peleliu’s had momentum on their side after allowing only one Hagu Lamun hit before bagging three outs to end the first inning.
Playing defense, Hagu Lamun failed to land the pitch within the strike zone, allowing the first two Peleliu batters to walk without a sweat followed by three more Peleliu players who filled the bases.
Peleliu’s Alvin Salas and Ben Hocog then added a homerun each for eight consecutive runs scored before the first out was made.
Amazingly, Peleliu scored eight more runs highlighted by John Terlaje’s 3-run homer before the end of the first inning.
Down 0-16, Hagu Lamun finally got out of the gutter in the top of the second inning with a 2-run homer by Rodney Camacho.
But Peleliu responded with four runs and Terlaje’s second homerun for a commanding 20-2 lead.
Peleliu, however, lowered their guard, allowing Hagu Lamun to stage a rally. In the top of the third inning, Hagu Lamun filled the stat sheet with doubles to squeeze in five runs followed by five more thanks to Tim Wesley’s 3-run homer in the top of the fourth. But Peleliu scored three runs to maintain the lead, 23-12.
Hagu Lamun continued to put up a fight with a six-run rally in the top of the fifth inning, highlighted by two homeruns delivered by Eric Tudela and Joe Celis.
Fortunately for Peleliu, they let only one additional Hagu Lamun run slip in the sixth and final inning to secure the win. 23-19.
