AS of Monday morning, 87 individuals had filed their petitions for candidacies and letters of intent, Commonwealth Election Commission Executive Director Kayla Igitol said.
The figure includes the candidates on Rota and Tinian, she added.
“Our staff is now reviewing the petitions; we are halfway through. Then, the election board will have them certified next week,” Igitol said.
“The last day to file petitions is on August 10, so we will see,” she added.
As for the election itself, Igitol said they are in communication with an Omaha-based vendor of ballots.
“We are now corresponding with our vendor,” she said. “We are preparing logistics-wise. We are ordering everything that we need to order. We are preparing and sending out our request letters for the use of voting places, poll boxes for poll workers, and we are updating our rosters and maximizing our registration.”
In addition, CEC continues to register voters, Igitol said.
“To accommodate those who are working during weekdays, we are open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We like for our voters to take advantage of that, especially those who are working and unable to come during weekdays. Please bring your birth certificate or U.S. passport.”
Sept. 9 is the last day to register as a voter, Igitol added.
The 2022 general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Voters will elect a governor, lt. governor, congressional delegate, an attorney general, six senators, 20 House members, four mayors, 12 municipal council members and one Board of Education member. Voters will also decide on whether or not to retain one associate justice and two judges.
