KOROR (PCC) — Palau Community College marked a historic milestone with the official opening of its new Science Building, celebrated through a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on campus. The event highlighted PCC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing educational resources and providing state-of-the-art facilities for science education.
The ceremony brought together faculty, students, local officials, and community members, all eager to visit the modern facility. PCC President Dr. Patrick U. Tellei welcomed attendees and recognized the collaborative efforts that made the project possible.
The new Science Building serves as a cornerstone for PCC’s recently launched Bachelor of Science in Science degree program. Designed to support advanced learning, the facility features dry and wet laboratories, a Nursing Simulation Lab, faculty offices, and on its lower level, a lecture hall complete with an acoustic ceiling, stage, audio/control room, and backstage area. The third level houses eight classrooms equipped with smart boards, ensuring an interactive and modern learning environment. Safety and accessibility were prioritized with restrooms and fire safety features on every floor.
The $2.5 million project was made possible through the generous support of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Distinguished guests included Surangel Whipps Jr., president of the Republic of Palau, and Jessica Lee, ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Palau, both of whom delivered special remarks.
Calvin Ikesiil, director of the Bureau of Public Works, served as master of ceremonies, sharing detailed insights into the building’s design and specifications.
Also in attendance were ministers, local congressional leaders, governors, High Chief Reklai, and other members of Rubekul Belau or Council of Chiefs, along with PCC faculty and students. Their presence underscored the importance of this achievement not only for the college but for the nation.
“The new Science Building represents our shared commitment to academic excellence and innovation,” said Dr. Tellei. “It strengthens our mission to empower students and address the educational needs of Palau and the communities we serve.”
With the completion of this new facility, PCC continues to advance its role as a leader in higher education, preparing students for future opportunities while supporting Palau’s national development.
