HAGU Lamun remain one of the top contenders in the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League after pummeling the Salty Boys, 24-6, on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
Runs were made right from the start with the Salty Boys sneaking in an RBI on a sacrifice play to bring in Gary Bertocini for a 1-0 lead.
On Hagu Lamun’s first turn at bat, Dennis Cruz, Glen Camacho and Rodney Camacho earned an RBI each to take control before the Salty Boys could snag three consecutive outs.
Hagu Lamun’s lead grew further in the bottom of the third inning as errors plagued the Salty Boys, allowing Tim Wesley and Deshawn Reign to steal home followed by Rodney Camacho’s RBI Double.
Down 1-6, the Salty Boys bagged five runs in the top of the fifth inning, but Hagu Lamun answered with five runs of their own to stay ahead, 11-6.
The Salty Boys’ comeback attempt seemed to have sparked Hagu Lamun’s momentum as they stepped up defensively allowing no hits in the top of the sixth inning before exploding on offense with 13 runs highlighted by three homeruns — two from Dennis Cruz and one from Richard Quitugua — to seal the win, 24-6.
Aimeliik vs Asahi
Aimeliik joined the winner’s circle by outlasting Asahi, 14-10.
Right off the bat in the opening inning, Asahi scored five runs, but Asahi fought back with three to stay closely behind.
Asahi then took control in the bottom of the second as they found their groove, scoring seven runs filled with solo RBIs and Dominic Hideo’s homer to take over the driver’s seat, 10-5.
But just like that, Asahi fell out of sight and were scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Aimeliik, on the other hand, gradually worked their way back into the game.
It started with Martin’s two-run homer in the top of the third followed by a solo homerun by George Lisua in the fourth and another homer by Martin in the fifth as their team snatched the lead, 11-10.
No runs were scored by the end of the sixth inning, but Aimeliik managed to seal the deal in the final inning with three more runs to end the game with a bang, 14-10.
