Softball: Asahi beats Sufa

ASAHI on Sunday outscored Sufa, 13-8, in week 2 of the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League tournament  at the Dandan baseball field.

Both teams were evenly matched at first with only four hits made in the first inning.

In the second inning, the runs started coming in with Asahi drawing first blood with a sacrifice play made by Jun Manino, bringing in Hector Efrain and Ish Amasao for two RBIs and the lead, 2-0.

But Sufa scored two runs of their own, highlighted by Ray Borja’s solo homer followed by Frank Hocog’s sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Pat Guerrero to even the score, 2-2.

As the game progressed, Asahi’s offensive run increasingly outweighed Sufa’s.

In the top of the third, five more runs were added by Asahi with Dominio Valdez and Darwin Masahasan earning two RBIs each. Sufa replied with a two-run homer courtesy of Audie Maratita.

Toward the seventh and final inning, Asahi squeezed in six runs while Sufa could bag four only.

Asahi won, 13-8.
