Kabalen stun Rebels, move to 2nd place in SBA Thursday League

BAMBOO Kabalen continued their rise to the top in the Thursday Division of the SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League after nearly silencing the 9 Eleven Rebels 2, 11-2, Thursday at the New Bamboo Bar of Saipan Vegas.

The Rebels’ Phil Kalen claimed the first round of the opening Singles 8-Ball game, but Kabalen retaliated with three consecutive wins notched by Jerry Soriano, Robert Sanciangco and Jess Guerra to take control, 3-1.

The Rebels remained scoreless while Kabalen swept the Partners 8-Ball and the second Singles 8-Ball game for a commanding 9-1 lead.

Kabalen secured the win after their third straight sweep in the second Partners 8-Ball game, but the Rebels still managed to put up a fight with Arlon Buensalida and Ray “Stingray” Matsunaga snatching the final partners game before accepting defeat, 2-11.

The Rebels remain the top ranked team in the standings with 109 wins and 73 losses while Kabalen are in second place with 103 wins and 79 losses.

In other matches

Bamboo Soudelor Construction retained its no. 3 spot by besting SCS Just Chillin’, 8-5.

Both teams played as equals at first, splitting the first two games. Soudelor Construction then stepped up individually with Frankie Blas, Ryan Barlaw and Rolley Villanueva emerging victorious for a 3-1 run as their team seized the lead, 6-4.

SCS Just Chillin’ tried their best to stay alive but could only split the second Partners 8-Ball game before Soudelor Construction snagged the final game of the night to triumph, 8-5.

Soudelor Construction now have 100 wins and 82 losses while Just Chillin’ are tied with the VFW IT&E Homeboyz in sixth-seventh places in the eight-team tournament with 82 wins and 100 losses.

Joining the winner’s circle were VFW No Regrets which defeated the VFW IT&E Homeboyz, 8-5, and Last Shot Eleven Tiger who clawed the 9 Eleven Crazy Ballers, 8-5.

No Regrets are in overall fourth place with 89 wins and 93 losses while the Crazy Ballers are dead last with 77 wins and 105 losses.
