THE IDEAL Signs JC Rustlers and the VFW IT&E Destroyers are currently battling for first place in the Tuesday Division of the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League. Both have a total of 64 wins after Tuesday’s games held in separate locations.
The Rustlers moved up after lassoing the 9 Eleven B.E. Skeptron, 6-4.
The Rustlers started off on the right foot as Mark Butac, Chester Hamoy and Mei Rengiil triumphed in the opening Singles 8-Ball match for a three-win sweep and the lead.
The Skeptron answered with three consecutive wins of their own as Jess Farinas and Mark Ignacio paired up to claim the Partners 8-Ball match while Farinas and Arlon Buensalida kept the streak going, winning two out of three games of the second Singles 8-Ball match to cut down the deficit, 3-4.
Despite the Skeptron’s efforts, however, the Rustlers managed to regain momentum and a comfortable lead with a 3-1 run in the next two games while Joey Lucido and Jerry Tiu added the finishing touches in the final Partners 8-Ball match to seal the deal, 9-4.
Destroyers vs Kabalen
The Destroyers, for their part, outplayed the Bamboo NSA Kabalen, 8-5.
Thanks to the Destroyers’ individual performances, they established control early with Nolan Cultura and Rolly Villanueva pulling a 2-1 run in the opening Singles 8-Ball match. In addition, Cultura and Roman Rodriguez had a flawless performance as they each “run the rack,” allowing their opponents only one turn before they cleared the table.
Although Kabalen retaliated with a solo win in the following Partners 8-Ball match, the Destroyers equalized with a 3-win sweep in the second Singles 8-Ball match while pulling another 2-1 run in the third singles match for an 8-3 lead.
But Kabalen continued to put up a fight, winning the last two Partners 8-Ball matches before bowing down to the Destroyers, 5-8.
Also making it to the winner’s circle were the 9 Eleven Rebels who outgunned the VFW Crazy Shooters, 10-3; and the Last Shot Dead Eye’s who routed the Last Shot Cholos, 11-2.
VFW IT&E Destroyers’ Roman Rodriguez lines up for the shot during a Tuesday Division game of the SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League at the VFW Bar.
