(Press Release) — The philanthropic arm of Joeten Enterprises, Joeten Daidai Foundation, held its annual scholarship check presentation at the second floor conference room of Joeten Shopping Center, Susupe on Thursday, June 30, 2022.
This year six deserving recipients were awarded $2,000 each for a total of $12,000 to help start them off on their college journey. The awardees are Jin Kim F. Abogado of Saipan Southern High School, Yuting Chen of Marianas High School, Easton C. Dela Cruz of Marianas High School, Vivien Liu of Marianas High School, Journey T. Mafnas of Saipan Southern High School, and Vladmir Palma of Marianas High School.
Along with meeting qualifying academic achievements, the newly graduated students were required to submit applications and supporting documents as well as write an essay based on a quote from Henry David Thoreau, “It’s not what you look at that matters; it’s what you see.”
“I wanted to stimulate the students’ minds, get their brains working with this quote,” said Foundation Director Patty T. Palacios. “Not everything in plain sight is black and white. There’s a story to be told. I needed the students to take us on a journey through their eyes, see it from their perspective. And they did quite well in captivating their readers in each essay.”
After congratulating each scholarship winner on their merits, Palacios added “I’d also like to take this time to thank the affiliates of Joeten Enterprises, such as Pacifica Insurance Underwriters Inc., Saipan Shipping Company, and Saipan Stevedore for their unending support and generosity over the years. Our donations wouldn’t be possible without them and the many business partners of Joeten over the years.”
Joeten Daidai Foundation has awarded scholarships to six deserving college-bound students.
