NMI U15 silences Guam U14 in friendly game

THE Guam U14 soccer team was on island from June 24 to 26, and played two friendly games against the NMI U14 team, winning one and losing the other.

Guam U14 also played a friendly game with the NMI U15 team, but the older group proved to be the superior squad, shutting down the visitors, 6-0, at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

The first half did not see much action as both teams played as equals with their fair share of defensive highlights and attempted shots.

After 15 minutes of play, the NMI started to gain offensive momentum that created several shot opportunities. Guam withstood most of the attacks but failed to hold down the fort as they eventually left an opening that allowed the NMI’s Paul Lizama to slip in as he connected the opening goal of the day to hand the home team the lead, 1-0.

In the second half, the NMI continued applying pressure which ignited a scoring spree.

Jim Takeru scored at the 33rd minute mark while Nolan Ngewakl provided the NMI’s third goal five minutes later. Lizama and Takeru added two more at the 43rd and 55th minute marks while Iver Lillies added the icing on the cake two minutes later for a 6-0 victory.
