CPA names 3 executives

Acting Executive Director Ignacio Perez said Mendiola, CPA’s staff engineer, served as acting Saipan airport manager prior to his appointment while Lizama served as the assistant of then-Saipan seaport manager Director Lee Cabrera.

Perez said the two will each receive $50,000 a year.

Bermudes, for his part, was originally hired by CPA in 2007, but he resigned due to differences with the  board, led by then-Chairman Rex I. Palacios.

Perez said Bermudes will report for work on Nov. 10 and will be paid $65,000 annually.

CPA has yet to name a new executive director and comptroller.

“It’s up to the board to decide,” Perez told Variety on Friday.

CPA Chairman Jose Lifoifoi, in an interview during a recent board meeting, disclosed that the board’s personnel selected Efrain F. Camacho and Rufo T. Mafnas to be the new executive director and comptroller.

The board, however, is still waiting for the two to  accept the appointments.

Perez said CPA’s management is still waiting for the board’s instruction regarding Camacho and Mafnas.

He believes that the board will notify the two and discuss with them the details of their employment contracts.

The board has said that filling CPA’s key management positions will address the concerns raised by the federal government and the bond trustees regarding the CNMI’s airports and seaports.

CPA also recently hired 10 replacements for its airport police division.
