The building south of the new Army Reserve Center is being demolished to pave the way for the construction of a $15,000 basketball court, according to the installation manager, Maj. Gregorio M. Sablan.
The building beside the troop store, Sablan said, has been sitting idle since the new facility was constructed five years ago.
Sablan said part of proceeds from the troop store sales go to the servicemembers for their moral welfare and recreation program, a long term commitment to them and their families.
The facilities built under this program are accessible to the troops and their families.
Aside from the basketball court, the Army Reserve Center has also acquired new equipment earlier this year for its physical fitness gym.
Worth about $25,000, the equipment includes machines for body-building and fitness.
