CPA board names Mafnas new comptroller

Mafnas, a certified public accountant, was among the top two final candidates from a pool of four applicants.

In an interview yesterday, CPA Executive Director Efrain Camacho confirmed that the board hired a “qualified candidate,” who asked to be given time to think about the job offer.

Last week, the board re-announced the vacancy for the comptroller’s position after the members decided to seek more applicants.

However, the board decided to act on the vacancy yesterday due to CPA’s pressing need for a new comptroller, Camacho said.

“After careful deliberation and discussion, they voted and made the decision,” he added.

The comptroller will help address CPA’s bond indenture issues and financial concerns.

“We will all be partners in addressing all the bond issues and financial concerns of CPA,” Camacho said, adding that it is the intention of the agency to have the new comptroller onboard “as soon as possible.”

It is expected that a comptroller, like other employees of CPA, will be given a one-year contract subject to annual renewal based on performance evaluation.

The comptroller will get an annual salary of $65,000.
