In an interview yesterday, Sablan said the party leadership has not talked with anybody yet except with former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero, who has expressed willingness to run for governor.
Sablan said he was told that other Democrats are interested in running, but none of them have officially informed him of their plans.
Guerrero, he noted, has yet to make a formal announcement.
The party, which registered over 500 new members this year, will hold a general membership meeting next month.
During the meeting, Sablan said they will ask prospective candidates to begin submitting their letters of intent.
2009 is a general election year.
Sablan at the same time said the local Democratic Party is still waiting to be recognized by its national counterpart.
The Democratic National Committee told the local Democrats that they will be affiliated next year.
Sablan said after the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama in January, the national Democratic Party will proceed with the process of giving the CNMI delegation representation in the DNC.
