CUC foregoes plan to meet establishments with power systems

CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said some hotels are now getting power from CUC while others maintain their on-site power generation.

“We do have hotels in the grid but we don’t have all hotels in the grid,” Muna said.

He added that the plan to meet establishments with on-site power systems may have to be deferred until CUC can increase its power distribution capability.

“We are not prepared now to go to the table,” he said.

The meeting was supposed to discuss possible solutions to eliminate the exposure of residents to potentially hazardous levels of noise and air emissions from establishments using their own power generators.

When he came aboard CUC, Muna said there are only four engines alternately operating and it’s difficult to run them beyond their limit of maintenance.

At present, only engines 6 and 8 of Power Plant 1 are online as repair and maintenance personnel continue on engine 3, he said.
