Freely Associate States (FAS) seek NECA membership

During the Micronesian Executive Summit last month, the leaders endorses the recommendation that strong encouragement be sent to the United States to allow the Micronesian countries to participate in the NECA on an opt in or opt out basis.

The National Exchange Carrier Association is a non-profit created in 1984 by telecommunications companies to administer the fees that NECA became indirectly responsible for the Universal Service Flong distance companies pay to access telephone local networks. It also manages the national Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) fund, which, though considerably smaller than the USF, is also sustained through long-distance telephone service carrier revenues.Palau has been trying to get membership with NECA for years.
