The project called Seasonal Influenza 2008 Mass Vaccination exercise aims to promote health of the people during the holidays.
Pearl Marumoto of the Ministry of Health, said that to prevent the spread of flu which is common in mass gatherings, people should have an annual vaccination.She said annual vaccination is the most effective strategy in preventing influenza.Marumoto said the vaccination will also identify and address clinic practices and needs to scale-up for a pandemic situation.The vaccination activity will also operationalize the General population priority groups as practice for pandemic influenza outbreak.Marumoto said the vaccination activity is for women and children, household contacts and care takers of young children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics with high risk conditions, national first responders, health care workers and members of national security.She said the free vaccination is the Ministry of Health’s gifts to the residents of Palau.“Our message is be healthy and be safe,” Marumoto said.
