Teen gets 6-day jail term for throwing rocks at limousine

Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Catalino Cangco to one year imprisonment, all suspended except for six days and with credit for six days he already served. Wiseman also placed Cangco on one-year probation.

He will write a letter of apology to all the victims, to be delivered through the Office of Adult Probations within 30 days from the date of the order.

He will stay away from Tinian Dynasty, perform 100 hours of community work service and pay restitution amounting to $617.

He will pay a fine of $100, an assessment fee of $25, plus probation fees.

Wiseman set the review hearing for April 10, 2009 at the Tinian Superior Court.

Cangco entered into a plea agreement with the commonwealth on Dec. 12, and was represented by Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig. Chief Prosecutor Kevin A. Lynch appeared on behalf of the government.

The defendant waived his rights and entered a guilty plea to the offense of criminal mischief.

Detective Chad Palacios of the Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Bureau stated in his affidavit that DPS  received a call from Rodel Manlulu at about 12:57 a.m. on July 15, 2008 asking for assistance near the JJDM Mini Mart across from a housing area on Tinian.

Manlulu told the responding police officer that he was passing through the jungle heading back to Tinian Dynasty after bringing some customers to the Tinian West Airport when he heard a loud thump from the passenger side.

He said  as he slowed down, he saw a large rock flying toward his windshield. He said pieces of glass flew to his face. When he got out of the car, he saw three individuals running across from the road to the Housing Turnkey.

A witness later told him that three individuals, including the defendant, were talking about throwing rocks at cars passing by.

The witness told Palacios that he saw the rocks hit the right passenger door and the windshield driven by Manlulu.
