A diplomatic note dated November 20, 2008 transmitted by the Embassy of the United States of America in Koror through Palau’s Ministry of State, Bush extends his congratulations to President-Elect Johnson Toribiong.
“On behalf of the people of the United States, I would like to convey my congratulations on your election,” stated US President Bush in the transmitted text letter.It added that “We look forward to working with you and your government to maintain a strong relationship and continue to support the development of Palau.”During the interview with President-Elect Toribiong on Wednesday, November 3rd, he mentioned that the United States is a strong supporter and good ally of the Republic of Palau.“Let us not forget that the United States has been a major benefactor and a close friend of Palau,” said Toribiong. “My administration will have a very special relationship with the United States.”Toribiong reiterated that his administration’s first priority is to improve the economic situation faced by Palau and so he will act accordingly beginning with a gradual repealing of the Foreign Investment Board law. “It will be replaced by a simple law,” stated Toribiong, “with the board to serve simply as advisors as well as to seek out investors abroad.”
