FAS leaders support bulk purchasing of petroleum

In the recent Eight President’s Summit held Nov. 19, Palau president Tommy Remengesau, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Emmanuel Mori and RMI President Litokwa Tomeing said they are supporting the outcome of the meeting of national experts/ petroleum focal points of Forum member countries held in Auckland in October 2008.

During the summit, the leaders directed their respective energy entities to work together to ensure that the Memorandum of Understanding , once finalized to address specific concerns of the countries, and complements and supports for sub-region bulk procurement of petroleum.The leaders also directed their respective energy entities to jointly and collectively advocate in regional meetings for technical support from regional and international entities for the implementation of the bulk purchasing of petroleum initiative especially in the Northern Cluster which covers FSM,RMI, Palau.The leaders also supported the goal of having one fuel market through a synchronized fuel supply arrangement for the three Freely Associated States (FAS).The three leaders have also emphasized the need to find a new and renewable energy sources, during the summit.
