US Army to offer free veterinary services starting June 17

THE U.S. Army’s 445th Medical Detachment Veterinary Services Support will conduct a veterinary mission from June 17 to 30, in partnership with the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs, Saipan Cares for Animals, Boonie Babies, and Gualo Rai Youth Center.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, free veterinary services will be offered by the military team, with spay and neuter operations at the Saipan Cares for Animals clinic in Gualo Rai, and vaccinations at the Gualo Rai Youth Center.

The mission aims to provide military personnel with Innovative Readiness Training or IRT while providing direct benefit to communities.

IRT is a program under the secretary of Defense that allows servicemembers to work with local communities in need of assistance.

The team comprising medical experts from the U.S. Army Reserve and the 807th Medical Command based at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City, Utah will arrive on June 15.

“This mission is the first IRT mission for the Command. We’re really looking forward to members of our community [taking] advantage of this free service,” said Glenna S. Palacios, special assistant for military affairs.

“We’re looking forward for these services to be provided to members of our community. The Detachment is really excited to offer this first time here in Saipan.”

Veterinary appointments are not needed. Services will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
