He said the key is to know how to cut energy consumption properly.
Citing the rising costs of utilities, Conner said smart energy solutions should focus on how to make power cheaper at homes and business establishments.
He said establishments, especially hotels, should use LED night light in their restrooms and bedrooms.
“When the lights go off, these little LED lights glow and automatically provides navigation light. There’s no need to switch them on,” Conner said.
He added that hotel owners sometimes fail to realize that the lights in the restrooms are usually connected to the fans.
“When a guest turns on the light, the fan automatically switches on, and the management wonders why they consume so much energy,” Conner said.
‘It’s a simple thing but it makes a big difference,” he said.
Air-conditioning units of hotels are also a big factor in the rising consumption of energy.
Conner said hotel guests naturally want their rooms to cool immediately.
“They must turn down the speed of the air-con’s fan and this will work more efficiently in cooling the room with less energy consumed,” Conner said.
He said these are just simple examples of energy reducing solutions that work not only for hotels but for households, too.
He said Conner Inc. provides consulting services in strategic planning, energy auditing, energy performance contracting, water infrastructure and healthcare facilities
Conner was yesterday’s guest at the Rotary Club’s first meeting for this year at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
