Remengesau who is now a member of the Senate Eight Olbiil Era Kelulau in his letter to Senate President Mlib Tmetuchl asked the latter to assign the Committee to other members.
Remengesau questioned Diaz credentials to chair the Credentials Committee and state in his letter that they must first examine the credentials of those elected to office.Remengesau said Diaz has been selected to be the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, but the Senator himself has a criminal record including one felony conviction.“It is a conflict of interest and inappropriate to allow a Senator with a criminal record to control the credentials review or to take an active role in the determination of fitness,”Remengesau state in his letter dated January 12, 2009.Remengesau added that the citizens should be fully informed of the decision process when the Senate makes its decision to seat or not an elected Senator.He said the government should be transparent in this important function.“In order to assure such transparency and fairness and to start our Eight Olbiil Era Kelulau with the utmost integrity, I ask you to assign someone else to the Credentials Committee,”Remengesau state in his letter to Senate President Tmetuchl.
