Belau Airport Security Company provide a three-week course

Two qualified aviation security (Avsec) instructors flew in from the Philippines last December 13, 2008, to provide aviation security training for new airport security screeners, current airport security screeners, and a number of aviation security instructors.

Earlier the same Avsec instructors conducted the initial and on-the-job training (OJT) for airport security screeners in 2005, and from then on BASCO has been providing airport security screening for all scheduled and chartered flights out of Palau.BASCO said that the Ministry of Commerce and Trade – Aviation Division), the national authority (Palau National Aviation Administration – PNAA), the Transport Security Administration (TSA) of the United States, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) are satisfied with the services and training provided.The Basic Airport Security Screeners Course started on December 15, 2008 until January 2, 2009. The training is based on International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standardized Training Package Basic Aviation Security (ICAO STP 123/ Basic). It will provide new personnel with knowledge, skills, and attitudes, to qualify them to perform airport security screening, using manual or technical means (x-ray machines and metal detectors), thereby increasing BASCO’s qualified manpower.Participating in the training are; Hernando H. Iyar, Jewel O. Ngiraikelau, Loma L. Roberts, Lester L. Nagata, Dreng D. Akiwo, Miyako Lillian Nakasone, Rene Mitsuru, Gerald S. Ringang Jr, Ambrosio J. Ongklungel, Milanie G. Dilig, and Smyna K. Solomon from the airport authority.Another course ,the Aviation Security Instructors Course, a two (2) week course, started on December 15 until December 26, 2008, and trained aviation security instructors (trainors) in conducting aviation security courses using approved (ICAO) Aviation Security Training Packages (ASTP’s) to its security personnel, thus enhancing its capability to train its own.Participants included: Alfonso Ngiraiwet, Victor S. Kumangai Jr., Carolyn Nakamura-Takada, Jill Nakamura-Iyar, and Sherry Nakamura-Ulengchong.The Recurrency Training for Airport Security Screeners, a week-long program, started on December 27, 2008 until January 2, 2009, provided the annual training for current airport security screeners as a requirement for their re-certification. The training involves review and update of security regulations and procedures, and practical evaluation of their screening capabilities. Participating were : Alfonso Ngiraiwet, Victor S. Kumangai Jr., Carolyn Nakamura-Takada, Jill Nakamura-Iyar, Sherry Nakamura-Ulengchong, Vicenta Kiruu Martin, Columbus Sakuma, Jeannette Lucy Brikul, Howard Uchel, Elvira M. Alemania, Jose S. Balbin, Natsue N. Obakerbau, Anavelee Sakuma-Tadao, Inlore Arurang, Brannette T. Mariur, and Puana I. Paulis.Arnel T. G. Cortez, and Jaime Ireneo A. Petiluna, qualified Avsec instructors and certified national inspectors from the Philippines said, “We are happy with the achievements of BASCO over the years, and it gives us great pride to be a part of it.” Mr. Kuniwo Nakamura, president and chairman of BASCO, reiterates assurance that his company will continue to provide quality airport security services at par with international standards thereby making it difficult for unlawful elements to disturb the peaceful and enchanting island-nation of Palau.
