“I wish him well and I would like to be a part of that anwers in meeting the challenges that Palau faces,”Remengesau said in an interview after his swearing-in of office as Senator of the Eight Olbill Kelau Kelulau yesterday.
“My message for him is to continue to work with the leadership of Palau. This is not a one man job, we will support him. I want him to succeed because if he succeed, then the Republic and the people of Palau will also succeed,”the former President who is now a Senator said.“He is my president and I am a Palauan. I’m wishing him well,”he said.Remengesau turned over the Presidential seal to President Toribiong yesterday. After the inauguration, Remengesau took his oath of office with the First Lady looking on.Remengesau said he will be the people’s strong voice in the Senate.“Definitely, I will not be sitting idle there. People can expect utilizing my experiences in the Executive Branch knowing what the issues are and pursuing the solution part of it in enabling act legislations to put things into perspective,”he said.“You heard the president saying the challenges are very tough but the role of the congress in formulating policies is going to be equally important because you cannot do a lot of things without the necessary enactment of law to implement the things that the government wants to do. This congress has its fair share of responsibility in making sure that the Republic meets the challenges ahead,”Remengesau said.Remengesau said he intend to introduce many legislations not only for the development of Palau but also for the conservation and protection of the environment.“That’s the reason why I went to Senate, to see how we can continue to promote the vision in preserving Palau and at the same time promote sustainable development that can benefit our people. It has to be a balance in the things we do. The public will not tolerate a non productive Senate and I plan to be the people’s voice in the Senate,”he said.
