THE 9 Eleven Rebels remain at the top of the food chain in the Tuesday Division of the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League after bagging their 25th win by defeating the VFW IT&E Destroyers, 8-5, Tuesday at the VFW Bar.
The Destroyers seemed to have established control early in the night as Roman Rodriguez, Jeff Garcia and Rolly Villanueva came out victorious in the opening Singles 8-Ball games for a comfortable 3-0 lead.
However, the Rebels returned fire with Mervin Sahagun and Eric Baugh pairing up to snatch the win in the Partners 8-Ball game while Rey Hermogenes and Sahagun kept the momentum burning with two consecutive wins in the second Singles 8-Ball game to even the score, 3-3.
The Destroyers’ Villanueva claimed the final match of the Singles 8-Ball, and scored his second straight win with team mate Nolan Cultura in the second Partners 8-Ball game for a 5-3 advantage.
But the Rebels then unleashed a five-win onslaught to deflate the Destroyers and win the match, 8-5.
Rustlers vs Dead Eye’s
Joining the winner’s circle were the Ideal Signs JC Rustlers who outscored the Last Shot Dead Eye’s, 9-4.
The Dead Eye’s were the first to draw blood thanks to Victor Formales, but the Rustlers replied with two straight wins delivered by Albert Pangilinan and Mei Rengiil to grasp the lead, 2-1.
Although the Dead Eye’s Oliver Gragasin and Scott Shular triumphed in the Partners 8-Ball for the equalizer, the Rustlers excelled in the individual matches with Robert Sanciangco, Rowel “Cobra” Marian and Mark Butac winning their Singles 8-Ball games to seize the lead once again, 5-2.
The Dead Eye’s tried to stay alive but they couldn’t stop the Rustlers’ rhythm, and had to settle for defeat, 4-9.
Winners, too
Bamboo NSA Kabalen also tasted victory by dominating the Last Shot Cholos, 11-2, while the 9 Eleven B.E. Skeptron silenced the VFW Crazy Shooters, 13-0.
