FSM to get grant for telecenter pilot project

The project’s primary objective is to connect the Federated States of Micronesia’s remote and rural communities including schools, municipal offices and health clinics, for Internet access, voice communication and public media access.  

Three project sites have been selected for this pilot project.

 In Chuuk, Sino Elementary School on Tonoas Island will be the first school, besides those in Weno, that will have Internet access and other standard computer applications.  

In Kosrae, Walung Elementary School will be connected. In Pohnpei, Madolenhimw High School and the Madolenhimw municipal government will be connected.

A two-man team from Japan is y in the FSM to conduct the final work on the project and will visit each of the project sites.

 The FSM Department of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure will oversee the project implementation and accompany the Japanese visitors to the sites.
