Over $30,000 raised for the Palau Tourism & Hospitality School of Excellence

Palau Pacific Resort pledged $10,000 while its General Manager Shokichi Suzuki and his wife donated $1,000.

BTA also pledged $10,000 at the launching of the Fund-raising activity yesterday.Others who pledged support are the following: Surangel and Company $2,00; Bank of Hawaii $2,000; Kumangai Bakery $500; CTSI $2,000, Mobil $500; Shimbros $2,000; Deloitte & Touche $500; Duty Free Shoppers $500 and Carol Ngiraidis $100.A Memorandum of Agreement between the Ministry of Education, Palau Community College and Belau Tourism Association were also signed yesterday.President Johnson Toribiong, PCC President Patrick Tellei, MOE Director Emery Wenty, BTA President Dr. Minoru Ueki and Bilung signed the MOA yesterday.The signing of MOA is the cornerstone of a shared vision and commitment for the future of Palau’s Tourism and Hospitality Industry.The group aims to raise $750,000 to refurbish a former dorm at Palau Community College into a state of the art Tourism and Hospitality practical School of Excellence.The School of Excellence would boast a commercial kitchen, restaurant, and bar and alfresco area open to the general public at cost prices, together with a purchasing and receiving area. The second floor would house a hotel suite, reception, reservation and concierge area. In addition to a faculty area, both classroom areas upstairs would be dual practicum and theory classrooms.The school aims to train and equip students with range of skills, knowledge and confidence needed by the growing industry. The school will cater for young and old alike and create opportunities for those wishing to join or those already employed in the industry to utilize refresher programs and to enhance their customer service skills.
